I just watched Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein on Netflix the other day, and I was so surprised by how much it affected me. Honestly, I thought I would be watching half the movie through my fingers, asking my boyfriend every few minutes to mute the volume to save me from a horror-induced heart attack.

Muting the volume has been our little trick for years so we can watch scary movies together. I have always found it hard to resist a good ghost story, and I do love psychological thrillers and mysteries, but horror is not my cup of tea. Still, since those genres are often mixed together, it is easier to handle the scary scenes through the fingers, or over a pillow, and without sound. I’m sure many of you will relate!
